Sacraments

At our school, children learn about the importance of the Sacraments through drama, story telling, writing and singing.

We invite members of the Parish to pray for all our children as they prepare to receive the Sacraments. We expect parents to attend all preparation meetings leading up to the celebration of the Sacrament.

Year 3: Reconciliation and Holy Communion

In Year 3, our Catholic children are prepared to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion.

Teachers plan and prepare using specific teaching units from the Archdiocese of Birmingham Scheme of Work ‘Learning and Growing as the Children of God’ and this teaching is supplemented through drama, storytelling, writing and singing.

Parents are invited to attend some of the preparation lessons.

The celebrant for these Sacraments is our parish priest. The Sacrament of Reconciliation takes place during the school day some weeks before the First Holy Communion Mass. The Sacrament of Holy Communion takes place at a specially designated weekend Mass.

Year 6: Confirmation

Our Catholic children are prepared to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation when they are in Year 6.

Teachers plan and prepare using specific teaching units from the Archdiocese of Birmingham Scheme of Work ‘Learning and Growing as the Children of God’.

This sacrament usually takes place in the summer term and is celebrated with the parish after the children have been prepared across the course of the year, including attending a spiritual residential at Alton Castle with our sister school – St. Bernadette’s.

The celebrant for the Sacrament of Confirmation is usually a Bishop or Archbishop. In recent years, Bishop Pargeter has been our celebrant for this holy Sacrament, supported by our parish priest.
