Saint John’s House Saint Team
On Monday, the members of our St John House Saint Team came together for a special Celebration of the Word. We began by thinking about the question, “What is a saint?” We reflected on how saints are ordinary people who chose to follow Jesus and show God’s love through the way they lived their lives.
We then learned more about St John, one of Jesus’ closest disciples. We discovered how John followed Jesus, shared the Good News and showed great love and loyalty to Jesus and the early Christian community. We listened to Jesus’ words from the Gospel of John:
“I have called you friends.” – John 15:15
We thought carefully about what it means to be a good friend and how we can follow St John’s example by being kind, caring, loyal and supportive towards others. As members of the St John House Saint Team, we decided that our mission is to be good friends to everyone and show God’s love through the way we treat others.
We also remembered St Matthew, whose feast day we celebrated on Monday. We thought about how Matthew left his old life behind when Jesus called him and chose to follow Jesus. His story reminds us that it is never too late to change, make good choices and respond to Jesus’ call.
A very important part of our gathering was the election of our St John House Captains. Our Year 6 candidates proudly read their speeches, explaining why they would make good House Captains and how they would support and represent the children in their team. The children then had the opportunity to vote for their House Captains.
We are looking forward to seeing how our St John House Team will live out their mission of ‘I have called you friends’ throughout this term.
Saint Luke’s House Saint Team
Gather: We gathered prayerfully in the side chapel of our church to celebrate the Feast of St Matthew. We lit a candle to remind us that Jesus is with us and introduced our theme: ‘Follow me.’
Word: We learnt about St Matthew, who was a tax collector before Jesus called him to become one of his disciples. We listened to the Gospel of Matthew 9:9–13 and reflected together on why Jesus chose Matthew and what it means for us to follow Jesus today.
Respond: We passed a candle around as we spent time quietly reflecting on Jesus’ call to each of us. Children were invited to think about the ways they can follow Jesus through kindness, forgiveness, love and helping others, before joining together in prayer.
Mission: We left with our St Matthew Mission: to do one thing that shows we are following Jesus. We challenged ourselves to include someone, help someone, forgive someone or show kindness, keeping our hearts open to Jesus and putting our faith into action.
Saint Mark’s House Saint Team
Today, we celebrated the feast day of St Matthew. We talked about his life, being a tax collector and how Jesus called him to be one of His disciples. We learned that when Jesus said, “Follow me,” Matthew responded straight away and how he went on to share the Good News through his Gospel. Through quiet reflection, we thought of ways in which we can also say ‘Yes’ to God.
Saint Matthew’s House Saint Team
We gathered together as Saint Matthew House to celebrate this special feast day with a celebration of the word. Mrs. Yearsley led this and had the help of the prospective house captains from Year 6. They modelled how to enter the room with respect setting to tone for a reverent celebration of the word. They chose appropriate items for the prayer focus and Rahima read the Gospel, ‘The call of Matthew.’
We reflected on how willing Matthew was to change and dedicate his life to sharing the Gospel with others. Our mission was to spread the Good News through words and actions.
