As part of our Black History Month celebrations, the children researched an inspirational person who stood out to them and created projects to share their learning with others. We were incredibly impressed by the high standard of work produced and the thought, creativity and enthusiasm the children demonstrated. Their projects celebrated the achievements, courage and contributions of inspirational individuals who have helped to shape our world.
We were delighted to welcome our Governor and parent, Mr A, who shared his experiences and knowledge of life in Nigeria. The children enjoyed learning about Nigerian food, traditional dress, music, sport and everyday life, helping them to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of another culture. Mr A also presented the prizes for our Black History Month competition, celebrating the children’s efforts and achievements.
Our celebrations linked beautifully to our Holy Family virtues and Catholic Social Teaching. Through researching inspirational individuals, the children recognised the virtues of Curious and Active, as they explored new knowledge, asked questions and celebrated the achievements of others. They also reflected on Loving and Compassionate, recognising the importance of standing up for others and treating everyone with dignity and respect.
At Holy Family, we strive to welcome everyone, celebrate our differences and recognise the unique gifts each person brings to our world. Our Black History Month celebrations reminded us that we are all called to stand together in solidarity and to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
