Reception had a wonderful day at Oversley Farm, embracing the cold and rain as part of the adventure!
The children began by learning from Farmer Sophie how bread is made using flour, water, salt and yeast, before later enjoying a taste of the freshly made bread at lunchtime in the barn.
During a tour of the working farm, they discovered the difference between hay (for eating) and straw (for bedding), counted barrels, splashed in puddles and met lots of animals. We greeted the cows and learned about the eight new calves, finding out how silver ear tags help farmers identify them. The children also visited the chickens, watched eggs being collected and listened to the rooster’s loud crowing.
In the afternoon, we met the sheep, felt their thick wool and even helped to feed them, learning how farmers care for their animals.
A highlight of the day was sitting in the tractor and discovering how it helps with jobs around the farm.
It was a memorable visit that helped us appreciate God’s creation, understand how animals are cared for, and reflect on our role as responsible stewards, living out our Catholic Social Teaching.
